Advantages and Disadvantages of Micro-organisms

Microorganisms include bacteria, protozoa, algae and fungi. Although viruses are not considered living organisms, they are sometimes classified as microorganisms.

Advantages of Microorganisms :-

  • They help in production of food materials such as bread, cheese, curd,etc.
  • Helps in preparation of vaccine.
  •  Helps in fermentation.
  •  Serves as an important part of carbon and nitrogen cycle.
  • Disadvantages of Microorganisms :-

  • Responsible for rotting of food.
  • Responsible for tooth decay.
  • They spread diseases.
  • Are sometimes responsible for whooping of plants.
